We support self-identification of gender
Recently there has been a great deal of discussion and debate around the freedom to self-identify your own gender. There are some who fear how accommodation of non-binary identities beyond ‘man’ and ‘woman’ might compromise the rights of binary identified trans and cisgender people.
Be supports the right of every human being to identify their gender in the way that works for them, without the need for official sanction, and the right to change that definition to one which better fits their gender identity. This may include people with fluid ideas of their gender, and those who are agender.
We acknowledge that this presents society with a number of challenges but we do not believe that this is an excuse to suppress freedom of gender identification and expression. It is a sign of a mature and compassionate society that changes can be made in order that various identities be accommodated and treated equitably. In accepting difference and diversity we believe all people of all genders are enriched and supported
